New Year Reflections

How was you year? Have you had a chance to review it? What did you achieve? Did you do all the things you said you would? And did you have the life you wanted to?

Here's my review of the year that was, its been a fabulous year, alot of hard work and alot of fun. The biggest thing was being outside my comfort zone most of the time. How many times did you take a chance? Live outside your comfort zone?

Best thing I have done
Sailed with Crystal Cruises, with my best friend and boyfriend Paul Zaidman. Closely followed by having the courage to leave my corporate existence 5 years ago. I was miserable and it took me years to work up the courage to follow my heart and do the one thing I love, Dance.

Favorite place I've visited
The Blue Lagoon, Reykjavik, Iceland & Prince Christian Sound, Greenland. I didnt think I would ever get to see these places and smell how fresh their air is. The scenery is stunning and Australia just doesnt have anything like it.

Worst moment experienced
Being in the midst of a full blown outbreak of that awful Norovirus on the QE2. 30% of the passengers were sick, everywhere you turned people were sick, everyone was catching it and we couldnt get off the ship! We were like prisoners, it was absolutely the worst moment for me in many many years. Oh... closely followed by being told I had to wear this 1980's prison ward uniform to teach dance!

Most terrifying & courageous moment
That first night on the QE2, we sailed into one of the roughest bays in the world (Bay of Biscay) and the ship was pitching, rolling, groaning and we had a tiny inside cabin. My worst nightmare was to throw up and I had placed myself in the most likely place for that to happen. The next day, every part of me was screaming to get off that ship, but! I was determined to have a fabulous life and I felt the fear and did it anyway. I

Silliest moment
All of the moments we shared with those fabulous boys from the Acapella group Full Sail on board the Crystal Symphony. Closely followed by any moment we share with our best friends back home, Arsen & Demi.

Best achievement
Surviving a four month contract on the QE2 and coming out with our relationship in tact! Actually, spending 18 months with one person, in confined spaces, on a moving ship. Working, living, socialising together and spending almost every hour of the day together..... and coming out of it all with our relationship in tact! Now thats an achievement!

Biggest regret
None, I dont believe in them ;-)

Biggest surprise
Finding out how much people dont communicate via email when you go away. I thought it would be just like being here in person but for some reason, people just dont make the effort even though communication is at its cheapest and fastest ever.

Biggest relief
Coming home to Australia after being away for 18 months and having enough time to go out and and smell the Australian bush, pat kangaroos, wombats, wallabies and talk to cockatoos.

Biggest Joy
Seeing the tiny face of my first niece just after she was born on November 29

Craziest event
Sailing around the southern tip of South America (Cape Horn) and teaching Argentine Tango to 30 people in 40 foot seas, and I did it in 3 inch heels, not a single person was sick, no-one fell over and we all had fun!

Most pleasant discovery
Finding out that I could design and sew beautiful, elegant and well structured latin dance costumes. And enjoying the process so much that time stands still when I am sewing.

Most unusual discovery
Seeing just how much I had changed after almost 2 years away from family, friends and my homeland. The external changes were obvious for some but the internal changes are so great its hard to describe.

Quirkiest Achievement
Breaking free of my credit card habit! Leaving my credit cards at home and just living on what I earned. Not overspending, overcommitting or overbuying was an absolute relief, I had so much more time in my life to just BE with people.

Most inspiring event
Having my beautiful man complete the Landmark Forum and Advanced Course and opening his mind to the limitless potential of his life. Seeing the changes in him on an almost daily basis and being constantly inspired by his determination to transform his life.

Funniest moment
Oh dear, there have been so many of them its hard to pick one. One does stand out though, I cant tell all the details but it was probably in the crew elevator with those Acapella boys again, its not very pleasant so I wont go into detail, but it was hysterical, I left me crying, snorting, guffawing and gasping for breath...literally!

Most unexpected event
Sailing into Brazil during Carnivale, dancing samba with 100,000 people in the Manaus Samba Drome with four big burly men as my bodyguards. A once in a lifetime event!

Most peaceful moment
Recently after watching "The Secret" and "What The BLEEP Do We Know" and contemplating how powerful we are as human beings.

Biggest Change
The level of appreciation of this wonderful country we live in. Seeing the rest of the world made me appreciate Australia to a whole new level; the quality of the air, the friendliness of our people, the space we have around us, the wildlife we take for granted, the flatness of our country, the safety in our streets, the quality of our food, the calmness of our culture, we really do live in the lucky country and I hadnt seen that before we went away.

Biggest Realisation
Realising how much I give to others and how giving so much isnt always a good thing. Creating boundaries, setting expecations and allowing others to look after themselves can be much better than giving too much.

Most exciting moment
Watching the fireworks at 12midnight on New Years Eve and seeing the possibility of the new year. Taking a big breath in and focussing on what I really want and attracting that, rather than focussing on what I dont want. And looking ahead to the exciting possibilities of starting our new year together.
